What is a Gulet?
HomeWhat is a Gulet?
A gulet is a handmade, motor and sailing boat made entirely of wood for cruising on the Mediterranean coast. Firstly, gulets were produced for fishermen and sponge divers to carry their catch. Today, luxuriously redesigned gulets are used for yachting holidays.
The classic gulet has a round stern and rooms in the hull. However, today, many new designs have been created under the definition of wooden gulet. The round stern in the original gulet's design limited the number of rooms. Therefore, new gulets with the “flat stern” model have become more popular.
Today gulets contain a large fresh water tank, fuel tank and a waste tank. These have been added to increase comfort on the boat. However, with this addition, the weight of the gulets increased, so they turned into cruise boats rather than sailing boats.
The most commonly used gulets are those with 4 to 8 double/triple cabins that can accommodate 8 to 18 people. Each cabin has either a double bed or a double or single bunk bed. The cabins have a closet to store your clothes and a set of drawers. Each cabin has its own bathroom and toilet.
Inside the gulet, there is a lounge, bar, indoor restaurant and a fully equipped kitchen. There is an open dining and passenger lounge on the aft deck. When the yacht is not moving, the front deck, where many sunbathing beds are located, is covered with a canopy.
The staircase used to enter and exit the water follows a straight line and descends into the sea. Since the electricity on the yacht is between 12v/24v, you should take this into consideration if you are going to bring items such as an electric shaver, camera, phone charger, portable computer. Electrical devices can only be used while the yacht is moored to land. Some of our gulets are air-conditioned and have a generator, and there is a 220 volt electrical service.
In addition, the gulet has a refrigerator to keep drinks cold, CD player, board games, snorkel, mask and fishing equipment. If you wish, the fish you catch will be tastefully cooked especially for your dinner. A small outboard engine, a ship radio, mobile phone and life jacket are also on board.
All yachts are government approved and are operated by qualified captains.
